Kosmoceras jason

From the Jason Subzone of the Middle Callovian (Jurassic period). This ammonite was one of many specimens preserved in a mudstone concretion that was extracted from an exposure of Oxford Clay in Wiltshire, Southern England.

We have found concretions up to 1.5 metres long. Most are crowded with ammonites, gastropods and fossilised wood. Over 100 ammonites in one concretion is not unusual!

The specimen measures 2" (5 cm) across.
